Wealth Management Awards 2013

Thursday 13 June 2013

Welcome

The Financial Times and Investors Chronicle Wealth Management Awards recognise the very best of wealth management in the UK. They are voted for by readers of the Financial Times and Investors Chronicle, and a select panel of judges.

Our aim is to identify the best wealth and investment managers available to investors in the UK by asking their clients to rate the service they receive, by comparing performance and by interviewing managers.

The Financial Times and Investors Chronicle Wealth Management Awards are unique because they are based on the verdicts of one of the most financially literate and affluent groups in the UK.

The Financial Times and Investors Chronicle Wealth Management Awards will take place at Merchant Taylors Hall on Thursday 13 June 2013. A description of the awards can be found on the right.

Sponsors

Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is one of the oldest firms on the London Stock Exchange. Its origins lie in a banking partnership established in Sheffield in January 1792. The bank prospered, and so did its Stock Exchange investment business. By the 1830s this had grown to the point where a director was needed in London to handle it, so Charles Stanley came southwards. As the business grew it became recognised as a separate operation and in 1852 the name Charles Stanley first appeared as an independent member firm of the London Stock Exchange.

Today, Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is one of the leading stockbroking and investment management companies in the UK, dedicated to serving the private investor. In addition we act for many national charities, trusts, professional institutes and major financial institutions. However, our principal business remains as it was a century and more ago; the provision of a traditional, high-quality service to the discerning private investor.

Charles Stanley & Co. Limited currently has £17.7 billion of client funds under management and administration (as at 31 March 2013). Through its regional network of 32 offices across England and Scotland, the group provides private, corporate and institutional clients with a comprehensive range of discretionary, advisory and execution-only products and services.

Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Charles Stanley Group PLC – a public company whose shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Voting

The Financial Times and Investors Chronicle Wealth Management Awards are based on the votes of readers of Investors Chronicle magazine and readers of the Financial Times newspaper, and a panel of judges.

Readers are asked to assess their wealth managers on a range of criteria including the frequency and quality of communication, fees, financial performance and the range of investment options on offer. The results of the readers’ assessments are presented to the judging panel for rubber-stamping or discussion where a single clear winner has failed to emerge from the voting.

For the performance awards, all funds available to UK investors are automatically entered into the awards and their performance figures are analysed by Asset Risk Consultants. The top-performing managers – based on consistent, risk-adjusted performance – are interviewed by ARC and the category winners chosen.

Voting is open now

Methodology

The Investors Chronicle and Financial Times Wealth Management Awards are based on the votes of Investors Chronicle magazine and the Financial Times newspaper readers, a panel of judges, performance data and interviews with managers. The readers' verdicts will be the deciding factor for most of the awards. Please note, voting has now closed.

For the Best Cautious, Best Balanced, Best Income and Best Growth, shortlists are drawn up by performance measurement specialist asset Risk Consultants (ARC). The criteria is consistent, risk-adjusted performance over a range of time periods. Each shortlisted wealth manager is interviewed by ARC and selected judges.

For the other awards, readers of the Financial Times newspaper and Investors Chronicle magazine are invited to take part in a detailed questionnaire about their wealth managers. Readers are asked to assess their wealth managers on a range of criteria, such as performance, fees, range of investment options and tax solutions, trustworthiness and general competence. The scores are used by a panel of judges to select the winners in each award category.

The Best Charity Wealth Manager award is decided by the panel of judges, with the expert help of Charity Finance magazine.
